The Manhattan skyline as seen from the DUMBO neighbourhood (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass). (New York, August 2014). This image is a true summary of my first visit to New York: Three days spent exclusively on the top tier of a red bus, filled with pop-up tourists, synchronously craning upwards to view the never-ending parade of towering skyscrapers. And all I had to show for that (apart from some images like this one) was one hell of a pain in the neck!
Buffy, our black labrador is one of the sweetest dogs on this planet (even if I say so myself). All of 13 years old, her erstwhile glossy black coat is now generously tinged with silver. That, and the fact that she can lie still for hours, IMO puts her in contention for ‘the black-and-white-photographer’s dream model of the century’ award. (The only factor that may work against her is that most of the time her eyes are shut.)
I’ve put together a mosaic of kingfisher prints for the backdrop of my bar and while searching for images of these beautiful birds I came across the one above. It is a common kingfisher taken in Goa at the Kumbharja Canal of the Zuari River in December 2014.
The common kingfisher (kf) above is one of 12 kingfisher species in India. (Others being: black-capped kf, collared kf, oriental dwarf kf, white-breasted kf, ruddy kf, brown-winged kf, pied kf, stork-billed kf, blue-eared kf, Blyth’s kf and crested kf).
Of these the last two have so far eluded me! Images of the other 10 species can be found here: Images: Kingfishers of India
