Scaly-breasted munias (Lonchura punctulata) are small birds so named because of the scaly pattern of their chest feathers. Also know as nutmeg mannikins or spice finches they are a favourite in the pet trade. In India as a child I'd often seen street vendors carrying small cages jam-packed with birds for sale.
The image here was taken on the banks of the Waldevi lake where a couple of birds were inspecting an abandoned baya weaverbird's nest. A discussion on one of the birding groups suggested that these birds are not averse to starting a family in an abandoned nest!
